Doc weeks away from helping beleaguered Jays: "When doctors told Roy Halladay on Friday that he needed an emergency appendectomy, his first thoughts were about his role as a husband and father. Right after that, he thought about his role as the Toronto Blue Jays ace and leader. The right-hander's gut instinct for dealing with his swollen appendix involved playing through the pain, as it were.

'You always think maybe I can take something and continue, maybe get over this some other way,' said Halladay, who on his 30th birthday yesterday made his first public statement since undergoing the operation. 'But after the fact, I felt a lot better about the decision .'"
